Take your Kleenex out. This episode was emotionally charged 😦
Ji Yeon replays the back hug with Dong Ha. Dong Ha is also thinking about when Ji Yeon lived with Soo Chul and him – Dong Ha feeding Ji Yeon sandwiches he made, teasing her while she was watching TV, etc. (Can those two be any cuter?!).
Yet, when both see each other at work they feel awkward. They don’t know what to say or how to act around each other. They try to crack up some jokes and it slightly works. Ji Yeon says that she is happy to be home. Still now, she hears Soo Chul’s voice urging her to get out of the restroom.
Dong Ha is reminded of the relation Ji Yeon-Shi Hoon when Yong Shik shows him picture of their interview in a cafe. Yong Shik explains that he had never seen Ji Yeon laughing like this. Dong Ha is obviously bothered, but he is able to hide it.
Shi Hoon’s assistant is still creating trouble although she was fired (Get the message please and leave)! She buys a plane ticket for Shi Hoon for a photography project in Africa (Nosy). Not only did she get the plane ticket, but she also gets Shi Hoon’s departure in the newspaper (Front page too).
Ji Yeon’s mother brings food to Ji Yeon. She wants to celebrate Ji Yeon moving back in her apartment. She also invites Soo Chul and Dong Ha, who gladly accept (Who would be crazy enough to refuse a free home-cooked meal?!). Soo Chul is true to himself and flatters Ji Yeon’s mother (Calling her noonim ~) while Dong Ha quickly throws himself on the food. Ji Yeon is happy to be reunited with her old suitmates and it’s clear that the boys are growing on her mother. The mother even likes the way Dong Ha eats (😀); he eats spoonfuls contrarily to Shi Hoon…
After dinner, Ji Yeon and Dong Ha briefly hang out. It’s a chance for Dong Ha to encourage her to read the book he left there. He hopes that she will pick it up and realize his feelings. Ji Yeon doesn’t get the hint and Dong Ha ends up leaving.
Before leaving, Ms. Assistant tells Shi Hoon that Ji Yeon is a hindrance to his career. Plus Ji Yeon doesn’t trust him. How could Ji Yeon easily believe when she said that Shi Hoon regretted the engagement?! Last, but not least (Like she needed to create more mess) Ms. Assistant calls Ji Yeon asking her to leave Shi Hoon alone. Shi Hoon can pursue his dreams if she is not in his way. She also lets Ji Yeon know that Shi Hoon is leaving for Africa.
Ji Yeon confronts Shi Hoon about his trip to Africa. When was he going to tell her about his trip? Two years after he was gone? Five years? Shi Hoon grabs her explaining that he had no intention to leave. He is not planning on going anywhere as long as she wants him next to her. Ji Yeon then asks him to stay.
The hardest part is telling Dong Ha that she went back to Shi Hoon.
Ji Yeon: “About what you asked me. I have an answer.”
Dong Ha: “Don’t. That person is going to Africa. Tell me once he is gone…”
Ji Yeon: “Dong Ha… He isn’t going. I held onto him. I told him to stay beside me.”
Dong Ha: “It’s good that you resolved the misunderstanding. It turned out well.”
Ji Yeon: “I am sorry.”
Dong Ha: “What are you sorry for? I am the one who choose to confess.”
Dong Ha hides his emotion (Once again. Poor Dong Ha.. Sponge mode again: absorbing everything… 😦).
Shi Hoon drops by Trouble Maker the next day. He wants to collaborate with Trouble Maker, specifically with Ji Yeon. He is going to give the magazine exclusive pictures and Ji Yeon will write the article. Both can write and date at the same time. Everyone seems happy about the collaboration, except Ji Yeon who looks not convinced. Dong Ha is also bothered. To the point that he quickly leaves.
Ji Yeon is taken on a date by Shi Hoon. On their date, Ji Yeon thinks about Dong Ha, which Shi Hoon doesn’t notice (Someone is in for a bad surprise… ).
Rin Ji is investigating Soo Chul. She asks Eun Chae for details: How big is Soo Chul’s shop? How wide is the shop? Does he have a girlfriend? What kind of girls does he like (Inspector Gadget mode 😀).
At the end of their date, Ji Yeon invites Shi Hoon inside for a cup of coffee (Luckily it’s not alcohol because with Ji Yeon we never know how that might end 😀). While he waits in the living room, Shi Hoon spots the little alarm Dong Ha gave to Ji Yeon (Sorry if I said that it was a whistle in last’s week recap). The alarm accidentally goes on and Dong Ha rushes in Ji Yeon’s apartment. Awkward. Dong Ha is jealous when he sees Shi Hoon there. Meanwhile Shi Hoon realizes that Dong Ha was so worried for Ji Yeon that he is still wearing his slippers, which makes him wonder how Dong Ha got there so fast. Ji Yeon explains that Dong Ha lives next door… (Sorry for you Shi Hoon). Haaaa Dong Ha also grabs a jacket that he forgot at Ji Yeon’s last time…
Later, Shi Hoon asks questions about Ji Yeon’s relationship with Dong Ha. Shi Hoon realizes that both are really close (Feel the threat ^__^). On his way home, Shi Hoon sees Dong Ha. He thanks Dong Ha for taking care of Ji Yeon – bodyguard, fake boyfriend, etc.
Dong Ha: “No need to thank me. I wanted to do it.”
Dong Ha resigns from Trouble Maker although he had one month left. The boss wonders why he is resigning. Dong Ha explains that it’s personal and it has strictly nothing to do with the company or his fellow co-workers. Dong Ha then tells Ji Yeon. He admits that he can’t keep working with her. She needs to consider his feelings and understand (No selfishness please). Other employees (I.e. Team Leader Byun) are convinced that he is quitting because Ji Yeon drove him crazy.
Of course, Soo Chul is the one recomforting Dong Ha. I say recomforting but Soo Chul is not too happy with how Dong Ha handled the situation. How could Dong Ha try to be fair play?! There is no such thing as fair play in love (Our dear spinach has no morals. Still love it though 😀). Soo Chul also encourages Dong Ha to start part-time jobs again. Our two favorite suitmates then go clubbing. Meanwhile Ji Yeon is on dinner date with Shi Hoon (Still thinking about Dong Ha though 😦). Ji Yeon is lost in her thoughts and uncomfortable (Basically not too happy to be on this date).
Dong Ha gets really drunk and heads back home without telling Soo Chul. At a random bus stop, Dong Ha vents his anger at a poster of Shi Hoon’s exhibit (So cute and hilarious).
Dong Ha (To the poster): “Why are you making fun of me? Look down! You are only good at making women cry! Do you know how much Team Leader cried because of you?! I have never made her cry even once! She smiled with me!”
“She’s a witch, but she has such a pretty smile.”
“Why do you thank me for taking care of Ji Yeon? What are you to her?! ”
Dong Ha attemps to fight the poster and hits his head before falling asleep
Soo Chul gets worried when he realizes that Dong Ha is gone and gives a call to Ji Yeon. If she hears from Dong Ha, she should let him know as soon as possible. That call is followed by another one from the police. Dong Ha was found sleeping at a bus stop.
The walk home is silent. Ji Yeon walks in front and Dong Ha behind. It’s only when she gets a phone call from Shi Hoon and that Dong Ha is so annoyed that he tries to walk past her. He is forced to turn around when Ji Yeon asks him why he had to drink so much. Dong Ha wonders if he can’t drink as much as he wants. Drinking is the only thing he has. Does she want him to blame Shi Hoon and her meeting again? Should be blame fate for not making them meet before she met Shi Hoon?
Ji Yeon drops the drinking topic, but asks if he is really going to quit. Don Ha explains that Polar Bear is back; she doesn’t need him anymore. She needs to understand his feelings.
Dong Ha: “What am I to you? A part-timer? The little brother next door? I can’t pretend like nothing happened.”
Ji Yeon: “You are 25. You can always start over.”
Dong Ha: “Age again. Is there a law that forbid men to date women 14 years older? You didn’t even give me a chance. I am not alright at all. Please leave me alone.”
Dong Ha turns his back and starts walking. Ji Yeon grabs him. He asks her to let him go. She should also stop calling his name if she isn’t coming to him. If she calls his name once more, he doesn’t know how he might react. She finally lets him go and he walks in the building.
Ji Yeon needs closure and that’s why I am partly happy that she is back with Shi Hoon. Without closure, she would have always lived in the past and wondered about the “Ifs”. Yet, it’s shown that the six years that have passed have a huge toll on their relationship. Shi Hoon doesn’t feel that way since he is able to start where they left off. Ji Yeon is unable to do so. She is rediscovering him and learning about him again. For instance, the trust is gone. Ji Yeon doesn’t believe anything Shi Hoon says and that shows the gap between them. Plus when with Shi Hoon, she always thinks about Dong Ha. Honestly thinking about another man while on a date with your boyfriend is worrisome.
Age is also keeping Ji Yeon from embracing her feelings for Dong Ha. She often brings it up. At the end of this episode, she once again reminds him about the age gap. Ji Yeon dismisses Dong Ha’s feelings because she believes he is young so he can quickly get over it. That is a little unfair. It’s hurtful to think that age can be used as a gauge of how relevant your love is. Ji Yeon is not the only one treating Dong Ha like a kid. Shi Hoon is too. He doesn’t see Dong Ha as competition because he is a “kid.” The way he thanked Dong Ha for taking care of Ji Yeon was slightly insulting. It’s almost like saying: “Kiddo, thank you for taking care of my woman. I am back now so your services are no longer needed. Go play with kids your age and let grown up handle their business.” That’s how I interpreted it and maybe I am reading too much into it 😀
