This drama makes me laugh so hard and it keeps getting better and better. The show gives a ALL IN ONE parody of the idol life, TV reality programming and other Korean dramas. I have to say that the team behind the drama does an amazing job in terms of visual and sound effects.
Oh In Young, a member of the girl group Ruby, finds herself in a predicament when her career turns for the worst. One option: Join a TV reality show where she plays the daughter-in-law to a traditional family. Four issues here: 1. Traditional family 2. She will be the wife of the eldest son (I can feel the pressure already) 3. In Young’s husband, Cha Myeong Seok, is a total nerd, who is more interested in the curves of the number 8 than the curves of a woman (His own brother described him perfectly) 4. The mother-in-law can’t stand In Young…
When In Young moves with her husband’s family, we get to learn more about the family dynamics and internal conflicts.
Two in-laws from hell
Cha Dong Seok, Myeong Seok’s brother, and his wife Se Mi struggle to maintain a stable relationship as they live under the same roof as Dong Seok’s parents. Se Mi got pregnant before getting married and she is consistently reminded of that by her mother-in-law. In addition, Se Mi undergoes immense pressure when she tries to emancipate and find a job as a professor. The mother-in-law wants her to do chores as well as maintaining a day job. Se Mi struggles to find the balance without neglecting her duty as a wife, daughter-in-law and mother. Important to add that Se Mi’s new job leads to countless arguments with her husband. Personally, I think Dong Seok needs to find a job, and the couple and their child need to move out. Why live with your in-laws? So much unnecessary drama.
I hope that Se Mi can continue to follow her dreams with the support of her husband. I am currently at episode 6 and Se Mi has been somewhat neglecting her duty as a mother. Yes, she didn’t have a son by herself but we know her husband is unreliable since episode 1. Also, I see sparkles between Se Mi and her boss. I hope she doesn’t go astray. Please get it together! A career sure! But don’t neglect your son 😩! Also, I don’t like the fact that Se Mi constantly belittles her husband. She knew he was kind of useless when she married him. She should push him to be a better version of himself and stop looking down on him.
Moving on to another component of the family: Cha Young Ah, Myeong Seok’s sister. Young Ah and her husband Kang Joon Soo don’t live with Young Ah’s parents but they still have their fair share of in-law drama. Young Ah and Joon Soo are neighbors with the husband’s mother Jang Mi Hee. The latter is nothing than trouble as she constantly wants her son’s attention. The monster-in-law wants her son to devote all his time to her. From meals together, to reading a book to her and even singing lullabies at bedtime.
What frustrates me is Young Ah’s patience and Joon Soo not being able to cut the umbilical cord. His mother is a grown woman: She is evil on so many levels that I don’t even know where to start. The mother-in-law has been harassing Young Ah for a grandchild but it’s kind of hard when her husband spends several nights at his mother’s… And that’s only one example of psychological abuse by the mother-in-law. The list gets worst and worst. Side note: Joon Soo is also the CEO of the talent agency that manages In Young. It explains why she ended up being the daughter-in-law of the Cha family.
There is a funny but not so coincidental parallel between the two mothers in this drama. I love how both are worried about how their children are treated by their in-laws but still find ways to mistreat their respective daughters-in-law. Why would you do wrong to someone’s child when you would want yours to be treated fairly? It doesn’t make sense. I think that the two women will learn their lessons the hard way. I can’t wait for the Cha mother to find out about the harsh treatment that Young Ah receives. Maybe it will make her reflect on her own behavior toward In Young and Se Mi. But what I want to see even more is Young Ah getting back at her in-law 😈!
In Young and her in-laws
In Young’s first impression was not good at all… They asked her to sing during the first meeting but she decided to go hardcore. She not only did the singing, but also did the sexy choreography that went with it. That scene was priceless.
Yet, I am impressed by the way In Young adapts. She’s been helping everyone in the family in her own way. She looks after her nephew San and even does chores. I can see her slowly growing on her in-law. I am not sure if that will be enough to be fully accepted though. It helps that her brother-in-law and father-in-law are extremely supportive!
In Young and Myeong Seok are like day and night. In Young is bubbly, happy and somewhat of a diva. Myeong Seok lives in his world – full of equations, formulas and math problems. And I think that’s what makes them the perfect match.
Their first encounter was embarrassing but hilarious for viewers and I think it sets the tone for their relationship – out of the ordinary. In Young mistakes Myeong Seok’s car for hers and drops a fart bomb in the car before realizing that it’s the wrong car! Myeong Seok is traumatized by the stench, which leaves a strong impression on him. This happens not only once but twice! In Myeong Seok’s words: What is the probability that someone would fart in your car twice?
I can’t wait to see them admitting their feelings. I know the Cha mother won’t be easy on the couple. Cha Mama has already warned In Young to stay away from her son!
In addition, In Young isn’t the only one interested in Myeong Seok. This so DramaLand… Another woman – Ha Ji – has secret feelings for Myeong Seok (Why do people insist on keeping their feelings secret?! Make them known or move on!). She lives with the Cha family and helps with household chores. I am not sure of her exact status in the Cha household but she’s been doing her best to be nice to everyone and earn points. That in itself is not a big deal. The big deal is her undermining In Young. So far, Myeong Seok has seen through her game toward In Young. He doesn’t seem aware of Ha Ji’s feelings though.
I have been binge watching this show. I started yesterday night and I am already at episode 6. Let me go finish the rest😆~
